The Los Angeles Sparks take on the New York Liberty. Our WNBA odds series has our Sparks Liberty prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Sparks Liberty.

The Sparks and Liberty are immersed in a unique part of the WNBA schedule. On several occasions this season, you will see two teams play two games within three days in the same location. The Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings did this in the first week of the season. Now the Sparks and Liberty are doing the same. This weekend in the WNBA, Dallas and Washington will play in Washington on both Saturday and Sunday. It's all part of a plan to reduce travel and cut down on the number of road trips each team takes over the course of the season.

The Sparks and Liberty played on Thursday. The Liberty were 14.5-point favorites and failed to cover the spread, winning by 13 points, 93-80. The Liberty have normally been a strong first-quarter team which then struggles in the middle quarters but roars to life in the fourth. Thursday's game was atypical, balanced against the majority of New York's season to date. The first quarter was close. The Liberty were good in the second quarter, creating a seven-point halftime lead. They flourished in the third quarter, building a 17-point lead. They coasted home in the fourth quarter to win by 13 instead of increasing their scoreboard margin. Again, this was a different game flow for New York, which won the game but likely cost bettors some money by not dominating the first or fourth quarters. You will see below that the point spread for this Saturday rematch is different from the 14.5-point spread established on Thursday.

The Sparks are without No. 2 WNBA draft pick Cameron Brink, whose torn ACL has sidelined her for the rest of the season. We noted that while Brink's defense and rebounding will be missed by Los Angeles — which was true on Thursday, as L.A. gave up 93 points — the Sparks might benefit on offense from Brink's injury. Scoring 80 against New York lends a measure of validity to that thesis, though the game wasn't close in the fourth quarter and therefore can't be a complete verdict on the Sparks' overall offensive quality. The fourth quarter didn't have any high-stakes possessions, and that has to be taken into account.

Why The Sparks Can Cover The Spread/Win

First of all, the Sparks covered the spread on Thursday against the Liberty. They did this without Cameron Brink, too. It's not as though this team will completely fall apart without Brink. Los Angeles might actually be able to score a little bit more than it did with Brink on the floor. Brink is a defense-first player, but her exit opens the door for the Sparks to be more of an offense-first team. It doesn't mean Los Angeles will win, but it does mean L.A. can score enough to stay competitive and ultimately cover a very large point spread.

Why The Liberty Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Liberty did not play a great first or fourth quarter against the Sparks. If they do that in this game, they can really get on top of the game and then finish off a blowout win to cover the spread.

Final Sparks-Liberty Prediction & Pick

The Liberty are a lot better than the Sparks, but they seemed to jog through Thursday's game. They should be sharper and more focused in this game. Take New York.
