Lonnie Walker IV is fast building his reputation as another oddball personality in the NBA. It’s more than just about his hairstyle, his wild style of play, or anything intangible. It’s more about his unapologetic hot takes which have zero connections to basketball. His latest mind blurb came last Wednesday, when he tweeted (then deleted) a claim that he’s just not the type who’s looking forward to 4th of July celebrations.

While Donovan Mitchell was out there crashing a barbecue party, Walker was apparently busy managing his disgust over the annual occasion of celebrating America’s freedom from British rule.

It’s Walker’s prerogative to believe whatever he wants to believe. After all, he is merely relishing, ironically, the freedom of speech afforded to him by this democracy, the same idea which has also allowed people to metaphorically bash his teeth in with their angry responses on Twitter.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is known, aside from being a great basketball mind, for being a very socially-aware intrepid individual who doesn’t care what people think of him so long as he gets to speak his thoughts.

In that sense, Lonnie Walker IV is going to learn a lot from Popovich, though, we’re not sure if he could convince his new coach that the Earth is an “illusion” and that Adolf Hitler didn’t take his own life.
