The Pittsburgh Steelers looked to upgrade the tight end position when they signed former Indianapolis Colts standout Eric Ebron to a two-year contract on Friday.

However, some are less than thrilled to have Ebron in the Steel City.

Pittsburgh radio host Andrew Fillipponi made a point of tweeting out some thoughts from an NFL scout he had on his show, in which the scout said Ebron “doesn't block” and alluded to him being a problem in the locker room.

But Ebron took the criticism in stride, questioning Fillipponi's credentials as well as those of the purported scout of note:

Ebron signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Steelers after making the Pro Bowl with the Colts in 2018.

Even though he started in just two games last year, Ebron still managed 375 receiving yards and 12.1 yards per reception in just 11 games. For comparison, Steelers starter Vance McDonald had just 273 yards receiving in 14 games and saw a steep decline in targets.

Ebron gives the Steelers a bona fide threat in the red zone, and he is a big and athletic target for Ben Roethlisberger as Pittsburgh's offense hopes their signal-caller remains healthy in 2020.

The “fireworks” comment seems totally overblown. Ebron had his moments of frustration, but that is only natural for a guy who made the Pro Bowl only to find himself on the bench a year later. Plus, Ebron figures to thrive in what should be a pass-happy attack with Roethlisberger under center, and the Steelers could utilize multiple tight ends quite a bit this next season.

Regardless, Ebron is not very concerned with the opinions thrown around on radio talk shows.
