When Steve Kerr was forced to miss time on the Golden State Warriors‘ bench due to his back's condition, many wondered how Mike Brown will fare in a fill-in role as the team's head coach starting in Game 3 of their first round series against the Portland Trail Blazers. However, he has silenced his doubters by leading the team to an unblemished record so far in the postseason after eight games.

One of the team's stars, Stephen Curry, talked about how good Brown has been since taking on the cudgels left by Kerr. Curry gave Brown plenty of credit and said, per the Associated Press via Fox Sports, that he is confident the 47-year-old will continue to embrace the challenge of calling the plays for the team.

”It’s a tough balance. Obviously Coach Kerr has set up an atmosphere and a way of doing things here that’s worked and been successful. When he hired Coach Brown, Coach Brown aligned right with that kind of idea. Coach Brown’s done a great job so far just, respectful is a word, but taking ownership of the opportunity right now to get over this next challenge. He obviously has coach in his ear all the time, and that’s how it should be, but he’s got to have confidence in himself and in his own mind and what he sees out there to make decisions on the fly and push the right buttons in games and make the right adjustments.”

”He’s done a great job of that ever since Game 3 in Portland. I’m sure that will continue.”

Despite being a first-time assistant coach, Brown holds very impressive credentials, as he even led the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first finals appearance in franchise history. He won the NBA's Coach of the Year Award in 2009 after steering the Cavs to a 66-16 record in the regular season.

Even with Kerr not physically present with the team, Brown has shown that he can run the system his head coach has instilled within the Dubs. If he continues to do the same as the postseason progresses, it won't come as a surprise if his team can make it to the finals and compete once again for a championship.
