Phoenix Suns guard Isaiah Thomas narrowly averted disaster during a scary incident that could have cost him his life. Thomas posted on social media Tuesday and detailed an incident in Washington where he and his friends were threatened by “a kid” wielding an AK-47.

According to Thomas, the situation only de-escalated when the kid recognized him from the NBA. Thomas was in his hometown at the time and is a widely recognized figure in Washington's basketball scene.

“Really trippin on how these young kids are moving around,” the post stated. “I really had a life-changing moment yesterday where a kid pulled a AK47 out on me and the homies, and if it wasn’t for who I was and him recognizing me in my own city he probably woulda ended all of our lives. Be SAFE.”

The post went on to say, “We just gotta pray for these young men!!! God was working yesterday frfr. Damn it coulda all been over that quick smh. FOR NO REASON AT ALL!!!!!“

Isaiah Thomas has since deleted the social media post in question.

Thomas was in Washington state at the time. He grew up in Tacoma and played college basketball with the University of Washington before coming to the NBA. Thomas has stayed connected to his roots in the Pacific Northwest and is still a prominent figure within the Seattle basketball scene.

The 35-year-old two-time NBA All-Star made his return to the league this season after he didn't draw any interest during the 2022-23 season. Thomas suited up for the NBA G League's Salt Lake City Stars back in March. That helped him earn a shot at coming back to the NBA, where he eventually joined the Phoenix Suns.

Isaiah Thomas did not see the court much with the Suns during the regular season. He appeared in six games and only managed to log 19 minutes off the bench. He also played during the Suns' Game 1 loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs.

Thomas has suited up with a handful of teams since joining the NBA in 2011. Aside from Phoenix, Thomas has played for the Sacramento Kings, Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers. We hope to see him on the court again very soon.
