The Tennessee Titans went on a magical run this season, going all the way to the AFC Championship Game on the back of Derrick Henry before falling short against the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Despite this run, the Titans have some big decisions to make this offseason.

The Titans could be a team looking for a new quarterback. They will need to decide if they can trust Ryan Tannehill as the main man moving forward. On the defensive end, the Titans need to add a pass rusher to bolster an already strong defense. Henry is set to become a free agent, and it would be a crime to let him escape to another team. To do all of this, the Titans will need to clear some cap space.

Delanie Walker is a player who could be cut this offseason. Walker has played seven season in Tennessee but has struggled with injuries. Over the last two years, Walker has played just eight games and has 25 catches. He is 35 years old, so this is a chance for the Titans to get younger and clear cap.

Could Titans part ways with Walker?

Walker has been a good player for a long time in the NFL with the Titans and San Francisco 49ers. His production has gone way down because of his durability. This could be the reason he is cut from the Titans.

Tennessee signed Walker to a two-year, $17 million contract prior to the 2019 season. If they were to keep him on the roster in 2020, he would come with an $8 million cap hit. Cutting Walker would leave the Titans with $1.6 million in dead money. There is money connected to Walker that could be put toward a contract for a premier pass rusher.

Jonnu Smith had a small emergence toward the end of 2019. He is 24 years old and viewed as the next big tight end in Tennessee. If this is the case, cutting Walker would not hurt the offense at all. He has not been on the field much anyway. Walker was a leader in the locker room, but if the Titans re-sign Tannehill, he would provide that veteran leadership.

Any way you look at the situation, it makes a lot of sense for the Titans to part ways with Walker. Cameron Wake is another player who could be a surprise roster cut because of his cap hit and their need for an upgraded pass rusher. If the Titans cut Walker and find a way to sign Jadeveon Clowney or another strong option, there will be no complaints.
