The Houston Texans witnessed the retirement of division rival quarterback Andrew Luck last Saturday. The former Indianapolis Colts star delt with subpar to terrible offensive line play for most of his career.

Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson was on that pace until the Texans sent the Miami Dolphins a treasure trove of picks for a franchise left tackle in Laremy Tunsil. But, head coach Bill O'Brien doesn't say Luck's situation urged them to make the trade.

When asked, during Monday's press conference, if there was any inspiration of Luck's retirement to impact the decision to acquire Tunsil, he said “none,” and left it at that.

O'Brien wants it to be known that the retirement didn't push him to make the trade. He sees Tunsil as an excellent addition to a team desperately needing a left tackle. He says on what he brings to the table:

“I think it's a good addition to our roster for a lot of different reasons. I think that when you look at Laremy, yes he is an excellent pass protector, but there's so many other things he can do. He can run block, he's able to get his pads down, he works well with the guys next to him whether it's a tight end to his left or a guard to his right, he works very well with the guys next to him, he can pull out on screens.

He's a very smart player, he's a very instinctive player and he's played guard before. We're not going to line him up at guard unless we had to, but he's done that before, so he's got a versatile skillset. I think that everyone is excited about adding him to the team.”

Though O'Brien is saying that Luck's retirement didn't play a part, it's hard not to think it did. He doesn't want to see Watson leave the game of football at 29 years old because of the physical toll on his body.
