In his first season in the league with the Houston Texans, quarterback Deshaun Watson quickly proved to be one of the promising young talents at his position.

Watson has also quickly adopted an affixed mindset with his eyes set on putting together a highly successful NFL career. During an interview on Good Morning Football on Friday, the 22-year-old stated that he wants to win more Super Bowls than New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady.

“If Tom wins, it's going to six, right? I want to be at seven,” Watson said during his Friday appearance on Good Morning Football. “Whatever it takes to be the best, the greatest, and not just for me, but for any athlete, especially quarterback … if you don't want to chase Tom Brady and [be] above him, you're selling yourself short. I always put my mentality with [being] the best, and Tom Brady is the best right now, so whatever I have to do to get to that level at age 40, that's what I'm going to do.”

Watson has set the bar high for himself and the Texans to reach that success over the next decade-plus. What Brady has accomplished over his 18-year career makes him arguably the best quarterback to ever play the game, boasting a resume with 15 playoff appearances, 15 AFC East division titles, and now eight Super Bowl appearances and a chance to hoist his sixth Lombardi trophy.
Although this is quite a lofty goal for Watson to reach, he has shown in his brief career that he has plenty of potential to develop into one of the league's top quarterbacks. Prior to his rookie season ending early due to a torn ACL, he threw for 1,699 yards in seven appearances, and his 19 touchdown passes were tied for the most in the NFL at the time of his injury while also setting a rookie franchise record.
On top of that, his 19 passing touchdowns are the most recorded in a quarterback’s first seven career games since 1970, surpassing Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner. His played led him to becoming the first rookie quarterback to capture the AFC Offensive Player of the Month honor, and he was also named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month in October.
If Watson is able to stay on track in his recovery like he has been over the last few months, he will have an opportunity to push the Texans towards those aspirations starting in 2018.
