The Houston Texans had a scary and distressing moment in their preseason Week 3 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys when running back Lamar Miller left the game with an injury.

Now it appears that moment got even worse. The Texans fear that Miller has torn his ACL.

Piled on top of the Indianapolis Colts Andrew Luck retirement news, and the AFC South isn't having a good time, and the balance of power in the AFC is shifting well before the start of the regular season.

Miller is an extremely talented running back who helped balance out the Houston offense last year.

In 2018, Miller racked up 973 yards on just 210 carries. The 4.6 yards per carry were his second-best ever not counting his rookie year (when he only ran the ball 51 times). Miller also added five rushing touchdowns and was a great compliment to the ultra-talented quarterback Deshaun Watson.

This changes things mightily for the Texans now. Houston will now have to figure out what it is doing at the position with a lot of unproven talent.

Of course, this does mean that veteran Duke Johnson should get a ton of playing time. He's not seen as an everyday back, though; he is more a receiver and change-of-pace player.

Could that change with the Texans being forced into an odd situation? Or will they rely on the unproven players to pick up the slack? Could Karan Higdon be the player they call upon? Or Buddy Howell or Josh Ferguson? Maybe it's Damarea Crockett? Or some combination of them?

The Texans could also find someone outside of the team, dipping into free agency or making another trade (they already traded for Johnson this offseason).

Whatever they decide to do, it's not going to be the original plan. Hopefully Lamar Miller can heal from this as quickly as possible and have no complications.

Meanwhile, hopefully the Houston Texans can figure their situation out. Who knows, maybe an unknown name that otherwise wouldn't have gotten the chance will shine.
