Houston Texans stud defensive end JJ Watt has often been praised for his generous charitable contributions along with fierce on-field persona. Who knows if he has ever been called a “psycho” before now.

Per Aaron Reiss in The Athletic:

Watt’s college roommate Louis Nwegzu recalls him writing daily goals on a whiteboard. A former Wisconsin teammate remembers how no one matched Watt in the weight room, so he was “always trying to beat himself.” Another, ex-quarterback Nate Tice, wasn’t surprised Watt took the maintenance job so seriously because, well, he takes everything seriously.

“He’s a psycho competitor,” Tice said.

Watt, 31, is coming off another season marred by injury, as the three-time Defensive Player of the Year tore his pec in Week 8 and missed the rest of the regular season, later returning in Houston's Wild Card win over the Buffalo Bills in Jan. 2020. Provided Watt's desire to return to the gridiron mere months after tearing a muscle, it is no wonder even his former teammates call him such a competitor.

With Watt, a five-time Pro Bowler with the Texans, recently torn down by injuries, the spotlight has shifted to his NFL brothers, with Derek and T.J. both playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Derek Watt, in particular, has turned into a standout linebacker and Pro Bowl selection who registered 14.5 sacks and two interceptions this season while older brother J.J. was on the mend on the injured reserve list.

Watt has led the league twice in sacks and has been a fixture for the Texans' defense this past decade.
