Lamar Miller wants to improve all-around as a running back for the Houston Texans, and part of doing that involves becoming a better receiver out of the backfield, which is something he really wants to work on:

“Once you catch the ball, I just think that you make a guy miss or breaking tackles,” Miller said, according to Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle. “I think that plays a factor into it. This offseason, that's one of the things that I've been working on, just running routes on the outside of the backfield.

“I feel like that's something that I can help this team do. So, heading to training camp, I'm just going to work on my route running and my speed, like always, to try to make big plays and just try to find a way to win.”

Miller was a virtual non-factor as a receiver this past season, logging just 25 catches for 163 yards and a touchdown. His best season as a pass-catcher came during his final season with the Miami Dolphins back in 2015 when he caught 47 passes for 397 yards and a couple of scores.

The 28-year-old rushed for 976 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 4.6 yards per carry in 2018 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Miller, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the Dolphins in the fourth round (97th pick overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He went on to spend the first four years of his career in South Beach, with his best season coming in 2014 when he racked up 1,099 yards while reaching the end zone eight times on the ground.

Miller then joined the Texans in 2016, and thus far, he has posted one 1,000-yard campaign in Houston, totaling 1,073 yards in 2017.
