Tom Savage won't be able to win the hearts and minds no matter what this season. Having been the original starter for the Houston Texans this season, then being benched for the dynamic Deshaun Watson, he really finds himself in a tough spot.

With Watson looking like a legit franchise gunslinger prior to going out with injury, it is understandable that there will be a substantial drop in play with Tom Savage under center.

On Sunday, he finished the game going 19-of-44 for 219 yards and losing a fumble on a sack on the final play of the game. The iffy and not good play wasn’t enough for Houston, as it lost to the Indianapolis Colts 20-14.

After the game, both you and Tom Savage likely had the same evaluation of his play.

“It’s probably the most frustrating game of my life,” Savage said, via the Houston Chronicle. “It’s just one of those deals that I just wasn’t making the throws and guys were open. I’m not going to give you the politically correct answer and say like blah blah blah we can get better. No, I have to make the throws. I played like crap. That’s what it is.”

Give him credit, he could have hid behind some cliched lines to get out of the presser without making more news. However, he explained the game as how most of us all saw it.

Savage seems like a decent guy, going as far to make jokes at his own expense during this entire Watson thing, so hopefully he can turn it around. If not, the jokes will be made by people who aren't concerned about Savage in the slightest.
