In his first campaign with the Houston Texans, star safety Tyrann Mathieu has quickly made a strong impression on his new team becoming a central piece to the puzzle in the secondary.

Beyond that, he has also stepped into a leadership role with the team on that side of the ball that his teammates have keenly noticed and praise him for taking on that responsibility, according to Sarah Barshop of ESPN.

“He's leading guys, pointing guys in the right direction and leading by example,” veteran cornerback Johnathan Joseph said of Mathieu taking charge on the field. “His game speaks for itself. He brings guys around him because he has a lot of confidence in his abilities, and I think that rubs off on other guys.

Mathieu has proven on the field that he can be the complete package talent with his ability to be an effective option in both pass coverage and against the run. It has been his ability to pick up the role as a leader that could quickly separate him as one of the top assets defensively for the Texans while demonstrating why he is regarded as one of the best defensive backs in the league.
