There's barely a week left before the NFL regular season starts in earnest. However, there's drama surrounding the Houston Texans as their future with Jadeveon Clowney is up in the air.

Trade rumors about the defensive end's eventual exit within the coming weeks have been swirling in the NFL grapevine. And according to Ian Rapoport, Clowney was all set to return to the team following his holdout, until he found out the team planned on trading him:

It remains to be seen whether the Texans would've wanted to keep Clowney had he reported earlier, but the point is moot now. His tenure in Houston is most likely over.

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly the favorite to land Clowney. Miami will be an interesting destination if the deal pushes through. Many understand that the Dolphins are currently in rebuild mode with their acquisition of QB Josh Rosen.

There are also other teams trying to acquire Clowney's services. NBC Sports' Joe Fann tagged the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks as teams interested in his services.

It's easy to see why teams are interested in the South Carolina product. He is seventeenth throughout the league in QB hits with his 21 successful rushes. He also notched 38 solo tackles, a pass deflection, three fumble recoveries, and a fumble recovery touchdown.

It will be interesting to see where the star defender ends up within the next 30 days. Houston fans will surely miss his defensive production. I wouldn't even be surprised if his loss cost the 2018 AFC South winners some games.
