Michael Jordan was heavily accused of being the one responsible for snubbing Isiah Thomas out of The Dream Team squad that took on the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, taking back the gold medal. Episode 5 of “The Last Dance” saw Jordan denying he had any part in bringing up Thomas' name, detailing the extent of his interaction with former selection committee chairman Rod Thorn:

“Before the Olympics, Rod Thorn calls me and says we would love for you to be on The Dream Team,” said Jordan during the episode, according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps. “I said, ‘Who's all playing?'

“He said, ‘What's that mean?' I said, ‘Who's all playing?' He says, ‘Well, the guy you are talking about and you are thinking about is not going to be playing.' It was insinuated I was asking about him, but I never threw his name in there.

“You want to attribute it to me, go ahead. Be my guest. But it wasn't me.”

At the time, Thomas' and Jordan's icy relationship was no secret after building a heated rivalry through their constant battles in the postseason. Jordan might not have said Thomas' name, but he had no issue admitting the chemistry would have greatly suffered if the Detroit Pistons point guard was included in that All-Star-laden roster.

“The Dream Team, based on the environment and the camaraderie that happened on that team, it was the best harmony,” said Jordan. “Would Isiah have made a different feeling on that team? Yes.”

Thomas is still aggrieved by his snub, as the popular docuseries pointed out in prior episodes. He did so again in Episode 5:

“I don't know what went into that process,” said Thomas. “I met the criteria to be selected … but I wasn't.”

Jordan, however, was not the only one who had issues with Thomas, as noted during the series. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson; two of The Dream Team leaders, also had their share of run-ins with the 6-foot-1 floor general — and they were not fans.

Thomas' snub might have been a coalition of unpleasant relationships with the best players in that team, hence why Thorn had taken the decision not to call his name for selection, likely knowing the effects it could have within team chemistry.

The Pistons point guard had a great resume that made him worthy of a place in that Dream Team, but his prior tiffs with Jordan, Magic, and Bird consequently cost him a seat at the cool kids' table, even if he was one of them.
