With a third season of HBO's The White Lotus coming up, could more follow? It appears Mike White is rich with ideas for the hit anthology series.
Speaking with Variety, Max‘s Casey Bloys spoke about the upcoming HBO slate. One of the subjects was The White Lotus, which appears to be bound to go for as long as White wants it to.
“I know Mike has a lot of ideas for where it could go,” Bloys said. “We're lucky to be in business with him. And we have actors who now really, really want to be on the show because it's a great opportunity and it's great writing.
“So I think as long as he wants to do it, we'll go along for the ride. He's really built a very interesting model to go from different parts of the world and have a rotating cast,” he continued.
This is great news for fans of the show. As those who have watched The White Lotus know, each season features a new cast with some holdovers. Jennifer Coolidge was the connective tissue from the first to second season. Natasha Rothwell, who played Belinda Lindsey in the first season, will return in the third season.
What is The White Lotus?
The White Lotus is an anthology comedy series from White. Each season depicts the stay of various affluent guests at the White Lotus resorts.
The first season followed a resort in Maui while the second took place in Sicily. A-list ensembles were assembled for the first two seasons, and that trend continues with the upcoming third.
Murray Bartlett starred in The White Lotus Season 1 as Armond, the manager of the Maui resort. Connie Britton, Alexandra Daddario, Fred Hechinger, Jake Lacy, Molly Shannon, Steve Zahn, Sydney Sweeney, Natasha Rothwell, and Jennifer Coolidge starred in the season. Lukas Gage, Jon Gries, and Alec Merlino also appeared.
The second season was led by Coolidge once again. Gries also returned from the first season as well. Haley Lu Richardson, Will Sharpe, Aubrey Plaza, Theo James, Michael Imperioli, and F. Murray Abraham led the season. Sabrina Impacciatore starred as Valentina, the manager of the Sicily White Lotus location.
Coming up, The White Lotus Season 3 will feature the likes of Leslie Bibb, Carne Coon, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Walton Goggins. Scott Glenn, Christian Friedel, Jason Isaacs, and Michelle Monaghan will also star in the season.
Who is Mike White?
Mike White created The White Lotus and has written and directed all 12 episodes of the series thus far. Before creating the hit HBO show, White gained notoriety for his screenwriting credits.
He first wrote several episodes of the likes of Dawson's Creek and Freaks and Geeks. White created Pasadena in 2001 and also created the series Cracking Up and Enlightened.
The first film White wrote was Dead Man on Campus. He followed that up by writing Chuck and Buck, Orange Country, The Good Girl, School of Rock, and Nacho Libre. White has also written The Emoji Movie, Pitch Perfect 3, The One and Only Ivan, and Migration. He also wrote the script for the upcoming Despicable Me 4.
