The Las Vegas Raiders are apparently interested in a package deal from the New England Patriots. The team is set to interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels tomorrow, and have their eyes on the Patriots' Dave Ziegler as their next general manager. Trying to emulate the most successful NFL franchise of our century would not be a bad thing to attempt. There are certainly worse papers you can copy off of. Whether the Raiders can land Ziegler or McDaniels remains to be seen, but for now, we can only speculate on how good the fit would be. Here are the three biggest reasons the Raiders should sign Josh McDaniels as their next head coach.

Three reasons the Raiders need Josh McDaniels

3. He will be motivated beyond belief

We start with the third most important reason, and it has significance because it has two meanings. One is that McDaniels will be out to prove that his less than a two-year stint as the head coach of the Denver Broncos was an aberration and not indicative of his future success as a head man. Second, he will be motivated out of his mind for each Raiders matchup with Denver, which, as we all know happens twice a year since the two are rivals in the AFC West division. If McDaniels does indeed leave his comforts in New England and come out West, it is hard to think that a little bit of sweet revenge over the Broncos twice a year is not a part of his motivation.

2. There is no one available with as many rings as him

McDaniels has been there for all six of New England's championships, something no currently available coach in the league can even come close to saying. Most have gotten a ring or two as an assistant, but six? That is just unheard of and they surely speak for themselves during interviews. McDaniels is also a disciple of Bill Belichick, and we have all seen over the years that his assistants have not necessarily fared well as a head coach. That should not deter the Raiders or any other team for that matter as McDaniels is the defacto coach-in-waiting in New England and has turned down offers from teams over the years to stay there and continue to learn.

1. He believes in Derek Carr

Perhaps the most important relationship a head coach must have is with his quarterback. A coach that believes in his guy no matter what can lead you to great heights. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are great examples of that. A coach that does not believe in his quarterback can drive a dagger into the team that might be irreparable. That's exactly what happened with Jared Goff and Sean McVay for the Rams in 2020. McVay lost faith in Goff and it trickled over to the entire football team. The Rams are now in a much better situation because McVay believes in Matthew Stafford wholeheartedly. With news coming out on Thursday that one of the main reasons that McDaniels was considering taking the job if it is offered to him is that the Raiders have Derek Carr under center. McDaniels is apparently an admirer of Carr's from away and may get a chance to show his love for him in person if things continue to progress. Stay tuned.
