In just five NBA seasons, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander turned himself into a star for the Oklahoma City Thunder and one of the best scorers in the NBA. His points per game total increased every season and reached a plateau last season when the 24-year-old averaged 31.4 points across 68 games. He earned his first All-Star selection and was named to the All-NBA first-team.

After just missing the playoffs last season, the Thunder have postseason expectations for the new campaign. In order for that to happen, Gilgeous-Alexander may have to play more off the ball to get his OKC teammates more involved in the offense.

SGA reflected on that a day before the Thunder open their season against the Chicago Bulls.

“The best teams that have played the game, the teams that have won the most championships, they play together,” Gilgeous-Alexander said, via Andrew Schlecht. “There was a point in Michael Jordan’s career where he had to learn the triangle offense and play without the ball in his hands 24/7. If Michael Jordan has to do it, I definitely have to do it.”

Looks like Gilgeous-Alexander was paying close attention to the Last Dance documentary. SGA has done his best Michael Jordan impression for the last couple of seasons and will need to tap into his inner MJ more this season if the Thunder want to get to where they want to be.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a decent bet to lead the NBA in scoring this season after finishing fourth in points per game last season. He could also be a dark horse MVP candidate for a Thunder team that could challenge for a top-four seed in the Western Conference.
