Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Scott Layden will now be in charge of taking trade calls involving Jimmy Butler.
Speaking on The Scoop! with Darren Wolfson, team owner Glen Taylor shared that Layden will now be talking to other teams' general managers about Butler and what possible trade package could they offer.
“Coach needed to concentrate on the team, and even more so because of the Jimmy thing…
“No reason that Scott can't be doing the conversations with the other teams. He's a veteran guy who knows all the GMs in the league. He can look at all the different opportunities. He has a wonderful staff to help him on the financial things.”

To recall, when Butler requested for a trade, it was head coach Tom Thibodeau — who is also the team's president — who took charge of speaking to teams and discussing possible trade options. Various reports reveal that Thibodeau got a chance to speak with the Miami Heat but the deal fell apart as he wanted to get more out of the trade.
After which, trade talks became stagnant. And it became obvious that Thibodeau had no real plans in letting go of Butler, who's touted as the team's best player. It would send the team to rebuild mode — a situation that Thibodeau is not a big fan of.
Butler himself went to Taylor and prodded him to speed up the trade process. Now that Thibodeau is busy handling the team as the season goes underway, perhaps Butler will finally get his wish soon.
