The Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly invited free agents Nick Young, Corey Brewer, and Arron Afflalo for workouts. All of them vie for the swingman position, the same role that superstar Jimmy Butler plays for the team. With the team also interested in acquiring small forward Luol Deng, could this be a sign that the Timberwolves will be trading Butler sooner than everyone thinks?

Darren Wolfson, a sportswriter and insider for Minnesota sports teams, tweeted out this current development.

Young is still fresh off a championship stint with the Golden State Warriors, where he served quality minutes off the bench for the team. Known as a quickfire shooter, Young has shown glimpses of his defensive ability last season as he earned coach Steve Kerr's trust to give him minutes in a stacked Warriors lineup.

On the other hand, NBA journeyman Corey Brewer is still in search for a team where his defensive prowess and above average shooting can contribute. The Oklahoma City Thunder acquired him in the latter part of last year's regular season, still proving himself as a quality 3-and-D player in the league. Afflalo saw his numbers decline together with his minutes in the past couple of years, but his toughness, shooting, and veteran presence will bode well for a Timberwolves team still finding their identity as a whole.

With that said, the Timberwolves' front office seems to be preparing for the hole that Butler might leave if ever the four-time NBA All-Star still wants out of Minneapolis. If that happens, the team will be focusing their sights on developing Andrew Wiggins into a bigger role and putting more burden on Karl Anthony-Towns to lead the team to greater heights this season.
