Aside from blooming into a genuine superstar at just 22 years old, one of the reasons Anthony Edwards is being tabbed as the future face of the NBA is because of his big personality. He has not shown it off much during the Western Conference Finals, but the All-NBA Second-Team selection flipped on the switch following the Minnesota Timberwolves' 105-100 victory in Game 4 versus the Dallas Mavericks.

Edwards was all smiles after recording 29 points (11-of-25 shooting), 10 rebounds and nine assists in Tuesday's must-win contest. He made sure to spotlight, and troll, one of his teammates during a lively and NSFW postgame press conference.

“Bite Bite is old as f**k, and he was getting downhill, laying the ball up, so shout out to Bite Bite,” Edwards joked, per Timberwolves Clips. “He coming in here with these clown pants on… that’s my PG, that’s my OG, he played great tonight and I couldn’t ask nothing more. Thank You Mike Conley.”

Mike Conley Jr. becomes the latest Timberwolves player to be roasted by Anthony Edwards. It was all in good fun, of course, as the former No. 1 overall pick continues to exude confidence and a strong leadership presence.

Although Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert were all instrumental to Minnesota extending its still-slim NBA Finals aspirations, Mike Conley Jr. helped the team establish its offense. The 2021 All-Star scored 14 points and dished out seven assists in 34 minutes, guiding a squad that shot 52.7 percent from the floor.

There is an abundance of talent on this roster, but Conley is arguably the glue holding it all together. Regardless of any shenanigans, Edwards and the Timberwolves are well-aware of the immense value this veteran brings. Especially in a time of crisis.

While the origin of Conley's “Bite Bite” nickname is shrouded in mystery, it aptly describes the intensity and energy he regularly emanates.

“A reminder that Ant told reporters he started calling Mike Conley Bite Bite ‘because he looks like he's ready to bite something,”‘ Yahoo Sports' Dan Devine posted on X. “Conley swore Ant made that up as he was talking to reporters, because ‘I’ve never heard him call me that before. Ever.' And it stuck.”

Anthony Edwards is always willing to put on a show in front of the camera, so fans should expect some embellishment, but the point stands. Conley is a fierce competitor.

The 36-year-old was a core member of the “Grit and Grind” Memphis Grizzlies that catapulted the franchise to new heights in the 2010s, a trusted option on a Utah Jazz squad that earned the No. 1 seed in the 2021 NBA Playoffs and a crucial leader for the Timberwolves during their coming-of-age season (averaged 11.4 points, 5.9 assists and 1.2 steals in 2023-24). This oft-underrated player elevates those around him, plain and simple.

Since the Wolves acquired Mike Conley Jr. at the 2023 NBA trade deadline, they have started to realize their full potential. Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert, two guys who were said to not fit alongside each other, found a deadly rhythm this past regular season. Edwards ascended into the upper echelon of the league in the same span, and key supporting cast members like Naz Reid and Jaden McDaniels became undeniable forces.

Is it a coincidence that all of this happened with Conley manning point guard duties, or was it a matter of time before these developments came to fruition? When in doubt, it is probably a good idea to credit “Bite Bite.”
