Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett recently made the announcement that he is no longer pursuing his dream to purchase the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise. In an Instagram post, Garnett seemed to imply that this development was brought about by the actions of current owner Glen Taylor, who himself has fired back at KG.

According to Taylor, Kevin Garnett was never really in the picture in the first place:

“Kevin (Garnett) never contacted me at all saying that he was interested,” Taylor said in a phone call, via Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. “Nor was his name listed on any of the buying groups that asked for financial information to review.”

It's no secret that the Wolves franchise is on the market, and there has been interest from certain groups with regards to purchasing Taylor's majority stake. Kevin Garnett, himself the former cornerstone superstar of the Wolves, was identified as a prominent member of one of the buying groups that were doing their due diligence.

On Thursday, KG blasted Taylor for “being yourself n what I Kno you to be!!!” This pair has a bit of history between them, and Kevin Garnett seems to be implying that Taylor was the reason behind the potential buyout falling through.

Taylor himself is not one to keep to himself and he's decided to throw a counterpunch of his own toward Kevin Garnett. This war of words seems far from over, and it looks like we're set to witness another chapter in this long-running feud.

This soap-operatic development with Kevin Garnett is just one more unwelcome bit of news in a dismal and dreary season for the Timberwolves. Minnesota is buried at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

Though accumulating No. 1 picks could contain the seeds of a revival for the team — imagine Cade Cunningham making his way to Minneapolis next season — it remains a dubious distinction to get the top pick two seasons in a row. That's not how Kevin Garnett or any other fans should want an NBA team to exist.
