COVID-19 has taken the lives of <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-karl-anthony-towns-reveals-loss-of-6-others-close-to-him-to-covid-19-plus-mom/">many loved ones</a> for Towns, including his mother, who he held very close to his heart.</p><p>With this positive test, Towns reassured his fans and family that he will beat this and he will not let it get the best of him. He made it known that COVID-19 must be taken seriously by everyone, as it has the potential to take lives without any warning.</p><p>While the NBA world hopes that Towns recovers to his optimal self, the Timberwolves will need to find a way to make up for Towns’ absence on the court. In the four games that he played this season, he averaged a stellar 22.0 points along with 12.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks. His paint presence as well as the ability to shoot are near impossible qualities to replace in a big man. However, the Timberwolves will have to do the best they can with Anthony Edwards, D’Angelo Russell, and Ricky Rubio leading the charge.</p><p>With a 3-8 record on the season, the Timberwolves have found themselves at the very bottom of the Western Conference. If they want a slight chance at making the playoffs this year, they will have to play at a very high level without Towns until he returns.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and most recently the Washington Wizards have all experienced concerns with COVID-19.</p><p>Towns saw her mother lose her life while fighting COVID-19 last year, a burden the Timberwolves All-Star <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-karl-anthony-towns-reveals-loss-of-6-others-close-to-him-to-covid-19-plus-mom/">carries heavily</a> during the 2020-21 NBA season.</p><p>The Celtics have had their past three games postponed before they return to the court on Friday versus the Orlando Magic. On the other hand, the Wizards have had their game against the Utah Jazz on January 13 postponed, along with their next three games.</p><p>Heading into Friday’s game, the Grizzlies were expecting to possibly get Ja Morant back in the lineup. Tucker.</p><p>Minnesota is hoping to get tougher and more formidable on defense, hence the interest in Tucker. The interest has been there for a while:</p><blockquote>“The Timberwolves have been monitoring P.J. Tucker’s situation in Houston since before the draft, and there now is reason to believe that the Rockets’ rugged frontcourt fire hydrant is finally available,” Krawczynski writes. “The Rockets finally relented to James Harden’s trade demand, and that should open the door for them to move the 35-year-old Tucker. The Wolves have maintained contact with the Rockets on Tucker and were expected to re-engage now that Harden is gone.”</blockquote><p>Tucker can guard multiple positions, including centers, and is a 36.3 percent 3-point shooter for his career. He has been hot through 10 games in 2020-21, knocking down 55.6 percent of his triples, though the volume has been lower than normal.</p><p>At the moment, Minnesota is slim at power forward. Juancho Hernangomez has been starting, but he has really struggled and there’s no proven depth behind him.</p><p>Tucker is making $8 million in the final year of his deal, which makes him an enticing trade target, especially for contenders. The Pacers put forth a strong second-half effort to give the Dubs a 104-95 loss. Golden State dropped to 6-5 on the season.</p><p>This loss aside, Wiggins’ contributions on the defensive end are a pleasant surprise. Despite being an athletic marvel, Wiggins has never been known for his defensive prowess. His block and steal rates have never been all that high, with his previous career high in blocks sitting at 1.0 per game last season (he averaged 1.4 in 12 games with the Dubs). The 25-year-old is at 1.8 blocks per game so far this season, and while the sample size is small, this is still a great early sign for his defensive production.</p><p>Golden State needs Wiggins to continue playing at this level, especially with Klay Thompson out for the season once again. It certainly seems <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-andrew-wiggins-happiest-dubs-after-losing-days-timberwolves/" rel="noopener">as if he’s finally enjoying himself</a> after years of toiling with the Minnesota Timberwolves.</p><p>The Warriors will look to get back in the win column when they face the Denver Nuggets on Thursday.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He also placed himself in the shoes of the members of the Black community and how heartbreaking it must be for them to see the difference in treatment that was only based on the color of a person.</p><p>The Timberwolves star has been involved with promoting the Black Lives Matter movement during the offseason. He previously led a protest in Louisville, the city where Breonna Taylor was shot and killed by police officers back in March of 2020.</p><blockquote>“We got everybody out here: all skin complexions, all ages, all different beliefs. It’s no coincidence that the Warriors are finally winning now that he is playing better. The 6-foot-7 swingman played big for the Dubs against the Raptors, pouring in 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field and 3-of-10 from 3 to go along with four assists, two rebounds, and four blocks.</p><p>Apart from his scoring, it was his much-improved effort on the defensive end that was key to their victory. However, KAT reportedly <a href="https://twitter.com/JonKrawczynski/status/1348125565950316546?s=20" rel="noopener">pushed to get back on the floor sooner.</a> After consulting with experts, he had a decision to make Saturday about returning to the floor way ahead of that initial timetable, knowing it could jeopardize his long-term health.</p><p>Towns ultimately did what he thought was best for his team:</p><blockquote>“The actual words I said was, ‘Fuck it.’ I just put my jersey on and said, ‘It’s time to go play,’” Towns said. “Obviously, it wasn’t the best decision for my personal health at all. But it was the best decision I could make for my team, so that’s what I did.”</blockquote><p>It had been evident that the Timberwolves badly needed Towns’ presence on the floor given they dropped all six games with the star center out. KAT looked like he didn’t miss a beat, as he finished with 25 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks in 37 minutes. There were multiple points throughout the game where Towns was favoring his wrist and also exercised caution in using his left hand. On one play, Spurs big man LaMarcus Aldridge hit him on the injured hand, causing Towns to immediately grimace in pain.</p><p>Towns’ heroic efforts weren’t enough in a 125-122 overtime loss to Minnesota. Nevertheless, the Timberwolves finally have their star big man back after missing him for those six games. However, thinking that the Timberwolves needed a 3-pointer to tie the game, the 6-foot-5 athlete decided to pass up the easy two and kicked the ball out to the perimeter. However, given that the quick two in transition presented itself quite surely, the Atlanta, Georgia native should have just went with the layup to trim the lead to one.</p><p>Had Edwards opted to take it himself, this would have left the Timberwolves with enough time to play the foul game (roughly six seconds) and challenge the Spurs to make their free throws. Minnesota also had a timeout remaining, which would have given head coach Ryan Saunders enough time to draw up a play.</p><p>Nonetheless, despite the blunder, the 19-year-old still put up a solid line of 13 points, four rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes off the bench. Edwards has had a promising start to his NBA career so far. After undergoing tests, KAT was diagnosed with a dislocated left wrist.</p><p>The Timberwolves announced that they would check on Towns on a week-to-week basis before they allow him to return. Seeing that he’s going to be in the starting lineup on Saturday, Minnesota seems to be confident in his recovery progress.</p><p>Before suffering the injury, Karl-Anthony Towns was averaging 19.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 blocks. While those numbers are inflated because of the limited amount of games he has played, Towns’ return to the lineup will definitely be a welcome sight.</p><p>Of course, with Towns missing over a week of action, it remains to be seen if he’s limited in any fashion. If Towns has a minutes restriction, then Ed Davis, Juancho Hernangomez and Naz Reid could continue to see more playing time in the frontcourt.</p><p>Even though the Timberwolves sit at the bottom of the Western Conference with a 2-6 record, Minnesota has a young roster that could be much better with Towns on the floor. Losing many family members to COVID-19, including his mother, took an emotional toll on Towns, as his mother was someone he looked up to for his entire life. In addition, this is not his first run-in with a wrist injury. Last year, he was only able to play 35 games for the Timberwolves as they did not receive an invitation to go to the Bubble in Orlando.</p><p>But Towns is so close to making his comeback, as he needs to overcome this one last obstacle before he can help the Timberwolves return back on track. In the two games that he played this season, Towns averaged 19.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. As one of the most versatile big men in the league, Towns has the ability to help the Timberwolves compete in a talented Western Conference.</p><p>Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-karl-anthony-towns-nursing-wrist-dislocation-and-will-miss-time/">could prove to be</a> dangerous when paired with Towns, but without Towns being healthy, the Timberwolves have been trying to make up for the offensive production and paint presence that Towns brings on a daily basis.</p><p>The Timberwolves last made the playoffs in the 2017-2018 season, and all that is holding the Timberwolves back right now is a recovering wrist.</p><p>With Towns back in the lineup, do not be surprised if the Timberwolves make a run for a spot in the playoffs. A young Minnesota roster needs as much time on the court together is possible. There is urgency attached to Towns’ return, but obviously, a franchise can’t take shortcuts in this kind of situation, either. Edwards appears to be getting used to life in the NBA, and this recent performance should serve as a testament to this fact.</p><p>The Timberwolves are still without Karl-Anthony Towns (<a href="https://clutchpoints.com/timberwolves-news-karl-anthony-towns-nursing-wrist-dislocation-and-will-miss-time/">wrist</a>) and Josh Okogie (hamstring), which should continue to result in a bump in Edwards’ usage in the immediate future. After all, it was still him and his Nuggets who claimed the W at the end, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/scores/nba/4d44ccf4-ed09-48fa-9e21-cf4e58c3d7f9/minnesota-timberwolves-denver-nuggets-01-06-2021" rel="noopener">123-116</a>. The Timberwolves have fallen to 2-5 after Tuesday’s loss.</p><p>After coming into the league as this year’s top overall pick, the Canadian hasn’t really been overwhelming as a back-up guard for the Timberwolves this 2020-21. Edwards was known for his strength and athleticism, which put him on everyone’s radar on draft day. He has been a steady contributor from the bench and was averaging a modest 13.7 points per game in 25 minutes per outing prior to Tuesday’s game.</p><p>There have been a few other rookies who have been making noise ahead of Edwards, but Minnesota remains hopeful that their prized rookie becomes the superstar they expect him to be sooner rather than later. Hopefully, with plays like this, the young Edwards gains more confidence as he he tries to make a name for himself in the NBA</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
