With the Minnesota Timberwolves set to host the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday night, guard Mike Conley is listed on the injury report. Conley has been dealing with a right soleus strain. The injury will be something to monitor during the Mavericks-Timberwolves series.

Conley is the only Timberwolves player listed on the injury report. Meanwhile, Maxi Kleber and Olivier-Maxence Prosper have already been ruled out for Dallas, while Luka Doncic is probable.

Conley battled his injury during the Denver Nuggets series. He's played an important role for the Timberwolves throughout both the regular season and NBA playoffs. Minnesota's chances of winning always seem to increase when Conley is available.

So far in the 2024 postseason, Conley is averaging 11.3 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game. The Timberwolves veteran guard is also shooting 40.4 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from deep.

The 36-year-old averaged 11.4 points, 5.9 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per outing during the regular season. Conley also appeared in 76 games for Minnesota, and played a big role in helping the Timberwolves clinch the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. Without Conley, Minnesota probably would not be where they are right now.

With all of that being said, is Mike Conley playing tonight vs. the Mavericks in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals?

Conley is listed as questionable on the NBA injury report as of this story's writing due to his aforementioned right soleus strain.

The Timberwolves have played with confidence throughout the 2024 playoffs. Conley's veteran leadership has proven to be important for Minnesota. In early May, Conley made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show and shared his honest thoughts on the 2023-24 Timberwolves.

“It starts at the top, you look at Ant (Anthony Edwards), you look at KAT (Karl-Anthony Towns), you look at Rudy Gobert,” Conley said. “Our coaching staff, Tim Connelly our GM, the culture that was built here is all about winning. It's about doing it right now, it's about doing it the right way. There's no cutting corners. Guys go out there… take pride in defense.

“That's not just one or two guys. That's all 15 who jump in there. When you have that kind of atmosphere, man, you can do a lot of good things.”

Conley believes in this Timberwolves team. He is a veteran who has played with many different players in the NBA. However, he is clearly seeing something special with this specific team.

The Mavericks will present a challenge for the Timberwolves, though. Dallas has upset the odds throughout the postseason. Although Minnesota is the favorite in the Western Conference Finals, the Mavs believe they have what it takes to pull off the upset.

No matter who ends up winning, the Mavericks-Timberwolves clash projects to be extremely competitive. And Conley could end up being the X-factor in the series. However, when it comes to the question of if Mike Conley is playing tonight vs. the Mavericks in Game 1, the answer is maybe.
