The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired point guard Ricky Rubio to provide steadiness and playmaking in the backcourt, but also to be a veteran leader.

Rubio ripped into the team after Tuesday night's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, suggesting the Timberwolves (2-2) are far from a .500 team and also stating guys are being too selfish:

“When things are going bad, we go our own way and we don't play as a team, we don't move the ball,” Timberwolves star Rubio said, via Chris Hine of the Star Tribune. “If you see the way we played against Utah and the first seven minutes we played tonight compared to the game against the Lakers or the rest of the game [tonight], it's two completely different teams.

“It's like a snowball. You make one mistake. It leads to another, and to another. There's not a way to stop that. We lost two games by 20-plus, 30-plus points and we have to show some pride.”

Rubio has a point. The Timberwolves rank 22nd in assists and 26th in offensive rating through its first four games.

Although Minnesota opened with consecutive wins over the Detroit Pistons and Utah Jazz, the Timberwolves have lost each of the last two games by a combined 59 points. They had just 22 assists on Tuesday night as compared to 32 Clippers assists.

Granted, the Timberwolves are down their best player. Karl-Anthony Towns suffered a dislocated wrist against the Jazz, and it remains to be seen when he will be able to return to the floor.

However, Minnesota will need to find ways to share the ball and score points without KAT on the floor. Rubio will try to spearhead the effort as the point guard and catalyst.
