Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota was forced to leave the team’s 38-10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts before halftime due to an arm injury and didn’t return. There was a fear that Mariota may have aggravated the elbow injury which he had to deal with during the first few weeks of the season.

However, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel announced that Mariota didn’t re-injure his elbow. Instead, his injury was diagnosed as a stinger.

“He's getting treatment and it's really not even the elbow. He had a stinger when a guy hit him in the head. He was evaluated by the independent neurologist and was cleared. We will have to see where he's at and make sure he's OK to play,” Vrabel said per Turron Davenport of ESPN. “When you have a stinger there's numbness. It goes from your neck down to your arm. When you get your neck twisted, you suffer some inflammation. That's what happens.”

Vrabel and the Titans are hopeful Mariota can recover in time to play in their big division showdown against the Texans next Monday night. If Mariota is unable to go, backup Blaine Gabbert will get the start.

Gabbert got the start in the first meeting against the Texans in Week 2 with Mariota suffering from that elbow injury. He went 13 of 20 for 117 yards and a touchdown as he led the Titans to a 20-17 win.

The Texans are much-improved since that first meeting, though, as they’ve reeled off seven wins in a row. While the Titans got lucky with Gabbert, they will likely need Mariota back and at his best if they are to beat the red-hot Texans.
