The Tennessee Titans surprised fans and Ryan Tannehill by selecting Malik Willis 86th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. Tennessee's quarterback acquisition meant that the two would likely be battling it out for the starting position for the upcoming season.

With that in mind, Tannehill told reporters, “I don’t think it’s my job to mentor him, but, if he learns from me along the way then that’s a great thing.”

Since then, people across the league have bashed the Titans quarterback for his comment, including LeSean McCoy.

Recently, Robert Griffin III gave his opinion on the comment. According to the former NFL quarterback, it's Tannehill's job as the play-caller to lead everybody on his team.

“Ryan Tannehill not wanting to mentor Malik Willis is a recipe for disaster…he needs to check his ego at the door because leadership comes with the cost of ego,” Griffin said.

He added that Tannehill publicly saying that he won't help Willis adds “unneeded tension” to the Titans' locker room. “Help the next guy and let your play decide who the future is.”

Tannehill is right, it technically isn't his written obligation to mentor Willis. However, he is supposed to be the team leader as the Titans' quarterback.

This means that he should be willing to help new players and rookies find their way, regardless of what job they are after. In fact, helping Willis would likely help Tannehill keep his job as the starter since it would show an extreme amount of leadership and confidence in his abilities.
