The Tokyo Olympics are set to begin next week and with the nation fighting tooth and nail against COVID-19, it looks like the athletes are already facing issues.

The first positive case of the virus has been found in the Olympic Village and is raising serious concerns about how safe these Tokyo Olympics can really be. The Japanese capital is currently in a state of emergency and just a few days ago, recorded the highest number of cases in a single day since January.

While the positive case isn’t said to be an athlete, it’s still a worry because the person has been around them. Japan is one of the nations that are still behind with vaccinations too. Only about 20% of the country has been fully vaccinated. So far, 40 people around the games have tested positive for Coronavirus.

The Tokyo Olympics have already been postponed a year after last summer’s games were held back because of the alarming rate of COVID-19 across the globe. It was already announced recently that no fans would be allowed at any events, but it seems like they will be facing problems with keeping the athletes healthy anyway.

The Tokyo Olympics officially begin on July 23rd and run through August 8th.
