Why The Twins Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Twins are 33-27 but have lost three out of their last four games. The Twins have struggled behind the plate, ranking near the bottom of the league, while they are only slightly better with their pitching. Alex Kirilloff, Edouard Julien, Byron Buxton, Willi Castro, Carlos Santana, and Ryan Jeffers are some notable names on this Minnesota offense despite the struggles. On the mound, Joe Ryan and Simeon Woods Richardson are the names to watch despite all their inconsistencies.
The Twins are starting Pablo Lopez on the mound where he has a 5-5 record, a 4.84 ERA, and a 1.15 WHIP. He has allowed 37 runs on 66 hits with 11 walks and 75 strikeouts through 67 innings. The Twins are 6-6 in the 12 games that he's started this season so far. Lopez has had trouble with consistency this season and it does not get any easier against the Yankees with how good their offense has been.

The Yankees are one of the best teams in the MLB at a 44-19 record. They are the best team in the AL and are competing against the Phillies for the best record in the MLB. Their bats have been great and their pitching is the best in the league. On offense, Juan Soto is a huge difference maker and an MVP-caliber player who was added to go with Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and Anthony Volpe behind the plate. Nestor Cortes, Marcus Stroman, Clarke Schmidt, Luis Gil, and Carlos Rodon have all been at varying levels of great pitching-wise.
The Yankees are starting Marcus Stroman at pitcher where he has a 5-2 record, a 2.73 ERA, and a 1.23 WHIP. Stroman has allowed 24 runs on 54 hits with 29 walks and 55 strikeouts through 69.1 innings. He has started in 12 games and the Yankees have gone 8-4 in those games. Stroman also has a 1.9 K/BB ratio. He gets a favorable matchup because of how inconsistent the Twins have been behind the plate.
The key for the Yankees is offense. They are ranked fourth in the MLB in batting average at .255 which is a massive improvement after struggling to .227 last season. 13 total Yankees have hit at least one home run this season which has done wonders for this offense. Juan Soto has been the biggest key player, leading the way in most batting categories next to Aaron Judge. Soto leads the way in batting average at .319, in RBI at 53, and in total hits at 75. Judge then leads the way in home runs at 21 and in OBP at .422. This is a favorable matchup for the offense because Lopez has been very inconsistent as a pitcher this season.

The Twins have struggled recently and have already lost the first two in this series. Expect it to be more of the same. The Yankees should win and cover thanks to their offense and thanks to the arm of Stroman on the mound. Expect it to be close, but the Yankees are the play to win and cover.
