The 2024 showdown of Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will be one for the ages. Paul, a YouTube star-turned-ring fighter, will take on highly renowned heavyweight boxing legend Tyson in a professional eight-round bout. Another boxing legend, Tyson Fury, gave his thoughts on criticizers of the foreseen sensational fight.
Tyson Fury believes the Tyson-Paul fight should be an all-around positive experience and is skeptical of naysayers of the event.
“Only jealous fighters, only fighters that are not getting paid, and not getting laid, they’re the fighters who are jealous. Negative people who are not making any money, and are not set to gain anything from this fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. I think it’s fantastic. I think this creates a lot of money,” Fury said via The MMA Hour With Ariel Helwani.
Fury noted that the marquee event will be economically great for Arlington, Texas with ticket, food, and drink sells as well as big influencer dollars being spent in the area. The British boxing legend also recognized the great benefit the fight will have to Mike Tyson and Jake Paul's camps.
“Then you got obviously all of Mike’s team are being fed, and all of Jake’s team being fed out of it, so there’s a lot of mouth’s being fed, a lot of people’s rents are being paid. So I don’t know what’s to be negative about it. I’m over the moon for it, I’m looking forward to it, I get to see the legend in Mike Tyson back in the ring in my era fantastic,” Fury added.
Tyson Fury's take is fitting. There is a lot of good that can come out of Paul and Tyson's fight. However, there are some risks to be concerned about as well.
Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson will be intense
One of the key storylines surrounding the Paul-Tyson fight is the 30-year age difference. Paul is 25, while Tyson is 57. Thus, many fans and analysts wonder if the fight is fair. How could Tyson compete against Paul when he is past his physical prime? Moreover, experts believe Tyson should be careful, as serious damage could be done to him given his age and risk factors.
Dr. Stephen Hughes, a senior lecturer in medicine at Anglia Ruskin University, highlighted the potential brain damage dangers Tyson could face. Dr. Hughes explained that the forces Tyson could experience might cause tears of veins in the brain. This potential issue would be exacerbated by the boxing league's older age and history of alcoholism.
Concerns of injury to Tyson are real, but he is no ordinary 57-year-old. Tyson is one of the most successful and experienced boxers in history. With a 50-6 record, the former undisputed heavyweight world champion will be sure to be prepared for the intense match.
Jake Paul, who owns a 9-1 record, will not take the matchup lightly either. His journey from social media sensation to ring fighter is intriguing, and Tyson Fury gave him props for his progression.
“Then you got like Jake Paul, him and his brother have done fantastic, I know we have our rivalry going on with Tommy and that but I got to speak how I see it, Jake and Logan have done absolutely fantastic for themselves, from becoming like young kids to multimillionaires, and YouTubers, and wrestlers, and boxers and everything else,” Fury said.
It will be interesting to how the legendary Paul-Tyson matchup fares on July 20th.
