Lead singer of Irish folk band Clannad, Moya Brennan, has high praise for another Irish lead singer. Brennan recently praised U2 frontman Bono for his assistance in the studio.
Mutual respect between U2 and Clannad
Talking to BBC Radio, Brennan spoke about U2's influence on Clannad. They shared a mutual respect and Bono assisted her in the studio.
“There was always respect between U2 and Clannad,” Brennan revealed. “Bono said [he'd] come into [the] studio and see what the story was. The two of us started singing Eurovision songs together actually.
“I learned a lot from him. I would have been very shy about singing in the studio,” she continued. “Bono came in and he just didn't care what people thought and it was amazing.”
In short, the U2 frontman's confidence taught Brennan a valuable lesson. Now, she is willing to try anything that she hears in her head.
“Anytime I'm in the studio, I'll try anything,” Brennan revealed. “If there's anything in my head now, I'll try it. Nine times out of 10 it works. The 1% that it doesn't, I laugh myself silly.”
Moya Brennan formed Clannad with her family, who have been going since 1970. She has also embarked on several solo ventures, winning one Grammy and receiving five total nominations.
U2 and Bono are embarking on a unique journey of their own at the moment. They are the inaugural act at the new high-tech Sphere venue in Las Vegas. The residency, which consists of 40 total dates, will continue through March 2, 2024. During these shows, the band plays their 1991 album, Achtung Baby, in full for the first time.
