The upcoming UFC 303 fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler is reportedly in question. The June 29th fight may end up not happening.

“I know there's a lot of anxiety, a lot of doubt, and a lot of concern about this because it's such a big fight,” Ariel Helwani said, via MMA Fighting. “No one involved, in particular from the UFC side and from the McGregor camp are speaking about this publicly. Chandler did the one interview and that was it. And I think that squashed some concern, but no one is really coming out and talking about this… I found out, via multiple sources, that they are reaching out to people again, they are reaching out to managers, they are reaching out to fighters.”

Helwani said the possibility of replacements or a new fight exists. There is much uncertainty about the situation at the moment. It seems to be uncertain what has led to the confusion about the fight, but there is not much confidence at the moment.

“The positivity that I talked about exactly one week ago today is nowhere to be found,” Helwani added. “I would say this fight is very much in limbo… I would say the UFC is working very, very hard right now to figure out a plan b. Now the plan b could be someone stepping in to fight Chandler. The plan c could be a whole new fight.”

Conor McGregor-Michael Chandler fight in question

The McGregor-Chandler fight is a highly-anticipated bout. The fact that it may not happen is obviously a discouraging update for UFC fans.

Again, we don't know everything that is occurring at the moment. It appears that McGregor's status for the fight is what happens to be in question. As Helwani said, Chandler's interview “squashed some concern” but that was before the latest update.

McGregor, 35, is controversial to say the least. He says exactly what is on his mind and certainly does not lack any confidence.

UFC fans were excited when it was announced that McGregor and Chandler would be headlining UFC 303. The two have a history with one another and there would be plenty of motivation for the bout.

It needs to be remembered that the fight has not been officially changed or cancelled as of this story's writing. There is still some hope for fans wishing to see Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler go head-to-head on June 29. McGregor is quite unpredictable, so it would not be shocking to see him make a bold statement on social media out of nowhere.

With all of that being said, right now the UFC is reportedly preparing a backup plan just in case this fight does not come to fruition on June 29.
