Al Iaquinta has been set to face Bobby Green for about six years. The pair have been expected to fight since 2015.
The fight is expected to happen now and Al Iaquinta is ready for it to come to fruition. The New Yorker will get a chance to do so at home.
“We were supposed to fight in 2015 and that fight never ended up happening,” Al Iaquinta told MMA Junkie at a pre-fight news conference. “So in my head, I was like, ‘Oh, Bobby Green.’ He didn’t win (hist last) fight but I honestly thought he won the fight. It was a great fight and he came on strong at the end. Then, the next day, my manager texted me, ‘The UFC just offered you Bobby Green at MSG.’ I’m like, ‘Perfect, I’m in.’ It all just came together at the right time. That’s how it came together and it worked out really good.”
The matchup is a really exciting one between two strikers. Al Iaquinta is known for his power and excellent boxing. He sees a difference in the way he competes versus the way Bobby Green competes.
“I think that’s Bobby Green’s thing. He keeps it close,” Iaquinta said. “He’s got a really unique style. He’s been fighting often. I’m going in there to fight. I’m not going in there to do anything else or have a good show or whatever. I’m going in there to fight and win. I think that’s going to be the difference.”
Bobby Green and Al Iaquinta will be clashing on the main card of UFC 268. The main event sees Kamaru Usman defend his title against Colby Covington.
