Two years ago, Daniil Medvedev irked the American audience by trolling them during the US Open. Today, after earning his first Majors win over Novak Djokovic, Medvedev trolled the audience once again.

“I think you gave me a lot of energy, starting in 2019, long ago.”

Medvedev has a colorful history with the US Open crowd, dating back to 2019. After his fourth-round win over Dominik Koepfer, Medvedev was showered by the New York crowd with boos. Instead of walking it off and ignoring it, Medvedev basked in the boos, and even encouraged it more and more. It's a bold move to make an enemy of New York sports fans, but the Russian superstar embraced the opportunity to become a heel in one of the world's biggest cities.

Even back then, Medvedev knew how to push New York's buttons to tick them off. Speaking after that win in the US Open, Medvedev said this. (via USA Today)

“I thought I'm not going to play. I’m painful in my shoulder. I took as much painkillers as I could. And you guys, being against me gave me so much energy to win. Thank you.”

Now, Medvedev has shown the US Open crowd that he can walk his talk. The Russian tennis prodigy made quick work of Djovokic, beating him in three straight sets (6-4, 6-4, 6-4) to win his first Grand Slam event. The win also denied Djokovic a chance at making history, so that should feel pretty good for Medvedev.

New York fans earned another sports guy to hate, and this one seems like he's going to torture the US Open for a long time.
