When Lincoln Riley bolted the Oklahoma Sooners to be the next USC Trojans head coach, speculation followed that star quarterback Caleb Williams would follow Riley to Southern California. It took a bit of time, but Williams has indeed decided to join Riley at USC.

Williams spoke to ESPN's Pete Thamel about the decision:

“I wanted to go somewhere I thought would provide me with the best development both on and off the field,” Williams told ESPN. He added: “Getting to know Coach Riley and gaining familiarity with his offense definitely played a part in my selection, as well as already knowing some the guys on the team.”

The new USC star also took to social media with his announcement:

Williams is already attending school at USC and is expected to start working out with the team this week:

“I want to get to work right away, earn the trust of my teammates, win championships and help bring USC back to being a top-rated program,” Williams said.

The quarterback picked USC over UCLA, Georgia, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.

Williams made waves at Oklahoma as a freshman this past season. While Spencer Rattler began the season as the starter and a Heisman Trophy candidate, his struggles resulted in Riley pulling the plug on him and inserting Williams as the new starter. The freshman responded and started the final seven games for the Sooners in 2021. He finished the season with 1,912 passing yards, 442 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns (21 passing and six rushing ) while throwing just four interceptions.

Now at USC, Williams will be a Heisman Trophy candidate himself as he looks to bring the Trojans back to glory with Riley at the helm. USC went just 4-8 in 2021 but is primed to return to prominence thanks to the arrival of Riley, Williams and other key transfers.
