Vicarious has been working on a support role for Blizzard for a while now. In fact, they even took over the development of Diablo II from Blizzard's originally designated “Team 1,” which made Vicarious Visions working on a major Blizzard project, taking it over from an internal A-Team. They would continue providing support to Blizzard with the PC Port of Destiny 2 and providing content for the game. While the reception for Diablo II: Resurrected aren't as good as many would have hoped, reception for the Destiny 2 DLC and expansions, for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy are all evidences of Vicarious Visions' deft hands in game development, especially for classic IPs where they have to balance the familiar and new features and mechanics.

Vicarious has been integral in Blizzard's ecosystem for a long time now, but the change in name and the merger just solidifies the partnership. Meanwhile, it's not yet completely clear how this will affect the studio's future projects. In any case, this will at least make Microsoft happy, who has moved to acquire Blizzard earlier this year. Having a studio that is reliable in bringing back classic games and have them re-packaged as modern titles with remakes and remasters is a strong asset to have.
