The Los Angeles Lakers remain winless after three games in the 2018-19 NBA season and their fans partly have San Antonio Spurs guard Patty Mills to blame for that.

During a marquee home game against the Spurs at home Monday night, the Lakers brought the house down late in the fourth quarter when they forced overtime with a heart-pounding 8-0 run with just a little over a minute left in regulation.

The excitement inside the Staples Center, however, was effectively snuffed by Patty Mills, who drained a go-ahead two-point jumper after getting a handoff from teammate LaMarcus Aldridge to put the Spurs ahead for good with only seven seconds remaining in overtime.

Here’s how Mills spoiled the night for millions of Lakers fans.

Of course, the Lakers also have themselves to blame. Mills likely wouldn’t be in a position to become a Spurs hero at least for tonight if only LeBron James made both of his free throws prior to that game-winning setup by San Antonio. James had an opportunity to put the Lakers ahead by three points when he took to the charity stripe when there were only 12.8 seconds left in the extras but botched both attempts.

Mills finished the game with 12 points, three assists, and two rebounds. LaMarcus Aldridge paced the Spurs with 37 points, while the Lakers got 37 and 32 points from Kyle Kuzma and James, respectively.

The Lakers will play the Phoenix Suns next on the road on Wednesday. The Spurs, on the other hand, will take on the Indiana Pacers at home also on Wednesday.
