Kirk Cousins is finally doing it when it matters most. In Sunday's 26-20 Wild Card win over the New Orleans Saints, the much-maligned Minnesota Vikings quarterback drilled a 43-yard pass to Adam Thielen in overtime to set up the game-winning touchdown, a toss to tight end Kyle Rudolph.
The Cousins-to-Thielen connection was eerily similar to one the Vikings failed to convert in Week 4's loss to the Chicago Bears:
This time, when it really mattered, Cousins finally delivered.
Entering Sunday's win, Cousins carried a perception that he isn't the guy who will carry or lead a team to a win in those big games. For instance, he has never won on Monday Night Football.
However, Cousins masterfully led the game-winning drive in this one, delivering when the Vikings needed him most and drilling $84 million throws:
“Kirk can’t win big games apparently,” Kyle Rudolph told FOX after the game. “I think we proved that wrong today.”
After his first season with the Vikings, Cousins looked like a quarterback who fell short of expectations, never having a playoff win to his name and failing to miss the playoffs despite being on a Super Bowl-caliber squad.
Now, Cousins is rewriting that narrative, or at least he's trying to do so.
Yes, Kirk, I like that. So do the Vikings and all their fans.
