The Golden State Warriors may have lost two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant this offseason, but they gained free agent wing Alec Burks.

Burks, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard who split last season between the Utah Jazz, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Sacramento Kings, arrives on a new-look Warriors team hungry to compete.

While Burks admits it's impossible for the Dubs to replace KD, he sees it as an opportunity to step up and play real team basketball.

“Nobody can replace an MVP Hall of Famer like that. So it’s a collective effort,” Burks told Mark Medina of The Mercury News. “I saw that and feel like there’s an opportunity here. That drove the decision, too. You just compete every night. That’s what the league is about. Play hard and compete and give yourself a chance to win every night. If you do that, you can live with the result.”

Burks initially decided on signing with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he was given the chance to re-evaluate his decision after OKC decided to trade Paul George. The 27-year-old swingman then opted to join the Dubs and sign a one-year deal with the team.

Burks joins a team searching for answers in the wake of Durant's departure and Klay Thompson's ACL injury. The Warriors acquired one-time All-Star guard D'Angelo Russell in a sign-and-trade with the Brooklyn Nets, and he'll likely join Stephen Curry in the backcourt.

For Burks, however, it's about competing his hardest and joining a team known for making the best out of everybody willing to give their all.
