For all of Stephen Curry's accolades, the Golden State Warriors superstar still doesn't have an NBA Finals MVP. Andre Iguodala won the award in 2015, and then Kevin Durant won in 2017 and 2018. While Durant winning was not controversial and is still not, there's a growing belief that Curry was robbed when Iguodala won in 2015.

Iguodala himself believes Curry should have a Finals MVP and doesn't like that he gets criticized for not having one, but he also doesn't think the wrong decision was made when he got the award. The Warriors veteran opened up on this in an interview with The Athletic's Sam Amick:

“As I said, I think it was well deserved. I just made the most of the opportunity. The scheme was set up for me to beat (James). And that doesn’t happen too often in the finals. Normally it’s the guy who’s the favorite, (who has) the odds, those are the guys who always get the NBA Finals MVP. And I think that I just made the most of the opportunity.”

Curry didn't receive a single vote for the award that year. Iguodala won it after he was inserted into the Warriors‘ starting lineup for Game 4 after they went down 2-1. He helped force LeBron James into inefficient scoring games the rest of the series while putting up his own impressive offensive numbers, including 25 points in the closeout Game 6.

Iguodala thinks this whole discussion about Curry not having a Finals MVP “does a disservice to the game,” but he insists the media didn't make the wrong decision in 2015 and that he's not bothered by people being critical of his award. While it's pretty crazy that Curry didn't even get a single vote that year (he averaged 26/6/5), Iguodala was at least deserving of his win thanks to how he changed the series.

Curry is now trying again to win that elusive Finals MVP. The Warriors will have to come from behind for him to do it after dropping Game 1 to the Boston Celtics at home.
