Barring a late setback, Golden State Warriors guard D'Angelo Russell will likely play Friday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole.

Russell will miss his third straight game on Wednesday due to an ankle injury when the Warriors take on the Houston Rockets.

Barring a setback, the Warriors guard likely will play Friday night in Minnesota, league sources told NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole.

The 23-year-old must be champing at the bit to go up against Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns, who is a very close friend of Russell's.

In his first season with the Warriors, Russell is averaging 19.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 6.4 assists. The lefty is shooting 38.6 percent from the field, 31.4 percent from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line.

After defeating the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday, the Warriors are 2-5 on the season. Superstar point guard Stephen Curry underwent left hand surgery to address his broken hand and will miss around four months. Power forward Draymond Green is also out with a left index finger injury.

Even with a healthy Curry, Green and Russell, the Warriors were going to have a hard time making the playoffs. It looks like it's going to be a long season for the Dubs.
