The Boston Celtics hope to take a major step towards winning an NBA title on Sunday when they face off against the Golden State Warriors in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. If the Celtics win this series, then they will make NBA history by becoming the first franchise to win 18 titles. Klay Thompson's dad, Mychal Thompson, is definitely hoping that this isn't going to be the case.

Mychal played five seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers during his time as a pro. He is well aware of LA's rivalry with the Celtics well and at this point, he's hoping that LeBron James and Co. bag the Lakers' 18th title before the Celtics do. Right now, both teams are tied with 17 championships to their name.

Mychal, who himself won two chips with the Lakers, now has more motivation to cheer for the Warriors. Not only is his son one of the stars on the team, but also, his loyalty to the Lakers demands that he root against the Celtics at all costs:

“Dr. Buss always would say losing is bad enough but losing to the Celtics was not tolerable,” Mychal Thompson said, via Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

“We are all Warriors fans now. They have to do us a favor and keep us tied with Boston. We can't let them get to 18 before us.”

Well, the Warriors will need to win Game 2 on Sunday to keep their title hopes alive. It's not exactly a must-win game for them, but to lose the first two games of this series on their own home court significantly diminishes their chances of winning their fourth title in six years.
