Klay Thompson addressed the media on Friday as the All-Star shooting guard discussed his upcoming return to action. The Golden State Warriors star did not reveal his exact target date to return, but the fact that he said that he's “very close” was enough to get Dubs fans everywhere hyped.
Amid all the excitement surrounding Thompson's comeback, the 31-year-old did confess to several concerns he has lingering in his head as he closes in on his season debut for the Warriors. According to Thompson, he's not too worried about his shot right now. Nevertheless, there are still a couple of things that's been running through his mind of late:
“The shot feels great,” Thompson said, via Josh Schrock of NBC Sports. “It always feels great. The shot I'm never worried about. The hardest part when you come back from a long layoff is the timing, the rhythm of the game and the conditioning aspect. Even when I do come back to play, whenever that is, it's going to be on a minutes restriction and it's going to build throughout the whole season and hopefully peak when it's winning time. Which is all the time, but when it really, really matters.”
These are definitely valid concerns from Thompson, and ones that you would expect from a player who is not only coming off two major injuries but more importantly, a guy who has not played in an NBA game for two years. The Warriors star will need some time to get acclimatized to the speed of the game once he returns, but knowing Thompson, it's likely that he's going to get to where he wants to be sooner rather than later.
The three-time NBA champ then revealed some of the challenges he faced throughout his rehab. It was a long-drawn-out process that definitely took its toll on him both physically and mentally. There's no denying that this was one of, if not the toughest hurdles Thompson has ever had to face in his entire life:
“Man, I feel really good,” Thompson said. “Honestly, I give myself a ton of credit, the training staff a ton of credit — honestly, there are times throughout the lengthy process that you might doubt yourself if you're ever going to be the same type of player.”

The good news for Warriors fans is that Klay Thompson has not lost one bit of his confidence. The 6-foot-6 two-guard remains self-assured and it is clear that right now, he has no doubt that he is going to be able to recapture his elite status in the league:
“Honestly, when I come back, I feel like myself, I feel great and I just feel like it's going to take a few days, maybe a few weeks to be an All-Star again,” Thompson said.
It's only going to be a couple of weeks (or perhaps sooner?) before Thompson finally takes the court again. He's clearly raring to go at this point and virtually every single basketball fan on the planet just can't wait to see him back in action. It's been a long and hard journey for Klay these past two years and he's now about to reap the rewards of the hard work he has put in.
Dub Nation, it's officially time to get excited. Klay Thompson is coming.
