Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry had a hilarious reaction to beat writer and The Athletic Bay Area columnist Marcus Thompson using his legal name of Wardell Curry.

Thompson addressed Curry by his government name, Wardell, during Curry's media session following the team's win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night. It clearly took Curry by surprise.

Yes, Stephen is actually Curry's middle name. But the two-time MVP has gone by Steph forever, and that is how he is known among basketball personnel and fans around the world.

Of course, Thompson has an established relationship with Curry and the Warriors organization, and was probably hoping to inspire the kind of reaction he got on Wednesday. Needless to say, Curry's facial expression is sure to become one of the most meme-worthy moments of the 2020-21 season.

Stephen Curry is trying to reestablish himself as one of the top players in the league following a 2019-20 season mostly lost to injury. The former Davidson star is averaging 28.1 points, 6.3 assists and 5.6 rebounds through his first 14 games. Curry dominated the Spurs, scoring 26 points on 10-for-17 shooting from the field while also adding 11 rebounds and seven assists.

The 32-year-old has not been quite as efficient from beyond the arc, shooting 37.3 percent from deep on 10.9 attempts per game. But it stands to reason Curry wold have more difficulties creating space, given he is the focus of opposing defenses without Klay Thompson on the floor.

Will Curry be an MVP candidate? It could be hard to exclude him from the conversation, if he has a tremendous year and leads the Dubs to the playoffs.

Just be sure to call the Warriors superstar Steph, instead of Wardell Curry.
