The Golden State Warriors are in the mix for a potential playoff spot as they are currently ranked ninth in the Western Conference. To make their final push for the postseason, the front office went and snagged Gary Payton II out of the G-League to boost their roster. After signing a 10-day contract, Payton II was given an opportunity during the fourth quarter in their blowout win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. He went out and recorded four steals and one block in just a nine-minute time span, catching the attention of Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr, and Draymond Green, per Anthony Slater.

Gary Payton II, the son of NBA legend, Gary Payton, seems to have taken after his father with his high-level play on defense. Payton, known as, “The Glove,” during his time in the league has passed that praise down to his son. The Warriors' assistant coaches knew it, and Kerr witnessed it first hand during Wednesday night's game.

By the end of the game, Payton II recorded an impressive stat line for the Warriors. Games like these are how a player can go from having a 10-day contract to being on the roster for the remainder of the season.

With the playoffs looming in the near distance, Payton II might be the person to help the Warriors clinch a spot in the playoffs. He's been able to provide solid depth off the bench, giving Curry a chance to sit and rest. We'll see if Payton II can do it again on Thursday night, as the Warriors take on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
