There were a number of trade rumors over the summer involving the Golden State Warriors. With a young piece in James Wiseman already in tow, plus a pair of lottery picks, many figured the Warriors would cash in those assets in a trade to get Stephen Curry for proven help as they chase a championship.

That didn't happen, with Golden State now juggling a win-now timeline and a long-term success timeline. Curry has said all the right things about the situation and showed his faith in the Warriors by signing a long-term extension, but The Athletic's Anthony Slater admitted on The HoopsHype Podcast with Michael Scotto that there was some “friction” with this “juggling of timelines” the Warriors are trying:

They also have three lottery picks in the last two years, and they’ve gone teenagers with all three and projects with two of them in James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga. Lacob has made it clear he’s not interested in trading those guys. He’s interested in those guys bridging into the next decade. That’s a little counterintuitive to what Curry wants. He wants to maximize the next few years. I think there could’ve been, and really behind the scenes, there has been a little friction about that juggling of timelines.

This shouldn't come as too big of a surprise. As much as Curry talks up these young Warriors players, he knows having another proven star or other quality vets would be better for his championship hopes. Those youngster could become legitimate contributors on NBA title teams down the line, but right now they're still raw and need a lot of development.

Still, even if Curry has some issues with the decision-making, he seems targeted to remain a member of the Warriors for his entire career after signing a massive four-year extension. He's going to be 34 in March and will start to decline soon, but Golden State is still looking good and will be a threat in the playoffs as is, especially when Klay Thompson comes back.

Plus, there's always the potential for moves in the future.
