Stephen Curry is revolutionizing the game of basketball with his “shoot from anywhere, anytime” approach and he's helped launch one of the greatest NBA dynasties in recent history. The Golden State Warriors begin and end with Curry and sometimes it seems like there isn't anything he can't do.
But now Curry is teaming up with Palm to try and revolutionize the cell phone industry with a credit-card sized phone. It truly can fit in the palm of your hand and it's a response to the gigantic smartphones that have become the norm. It's an interesting concept.
In fact, Palm's attempt to break the norm among mobile phones fits Stephen Curry perfectly. Curry entered the NBA as a scrawny third-year college guy out of Davidson. Ideally, that's not the profile when starting on a quest for greatness. Yet, despite all these, Curry has established himself as one of the greatest players to step on an NBA floor.
Thanks, Stephen Curry, but no thanks. I'll stick with the larger phone. At one point in time, the Palm phone would have been the most unbelievable phone on the market, but cell phones have evolved over the last decade. People are now used to the gigantic bricks in their pocket.
For the most part, people are happy to lug around the massive smartphones of today because they can have the larger screen. The larger screen comes in handy because we spend so much time on our phones watching videos, texting, surfing through Twitter, and a million other things to waste our time.
Perhaps for those of us who can afford two phones, the Palm could be an alternative to use in certain situations. But unfortunately, not everyone can have the luxury of having two smartphones to choose from.
If you are interested in the Palm, the phone will be available through Verizon for $349 according to Scott Moritz of Bloomberg. These may not fly off the shelves, but it's an interesting response to the current trend in the smartphone industry. Let's see how Stephen Curry impacts its bid in a competitive market.
