Golden State Warriors superstar forward Kevin Durant believes he and the rest of the core group of players with the Warriors will get a statue and their numbers retired with the franchise one day if they are able to win a third-straight title this season.

The last team in NBA history to win three consecutive titles was the Los Angeles Lakers, who did it from 1999-2002.

Since joining the Warriors in the 2016 offseason, Durant has been instrumental in Golden State's ability to have won their last two rings with relative ease. Barring something unforeseen, they'll likely accomplish their goal and win another championship this season.

Durant will become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason if he declines his 2019-20 player-option with the Warriors. There has been speculation that the nine-time All-Star might leave the Warriors and embark on a new challenge, but it's still way too early to even talk about that.

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and head coach Steve Kerr won the 2015 title without Durant. If the Warriors win the championship again this year, Curry, Thompson, Green, Iguodala and Kerr would have four rings with Golden State, while Durant would capture his third.

The Warriors are opening their new arena, the Chase Center, in downtown San Francisco next season. If Durant get his wish, he and the rest of his crew will have a statue outside the new state of the art stadium one day.
