Veteran defensive end Ryan Kerrigan has long been flying under the radar for his valuable contributions to the Washington Football Team. He continued to anchor the squad's defensive line during last Sunday's game en route to a surprising 27-17 win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Purdue product also accomplished an individual milestone as he passed Dexter Manley to become Washington’s all-time sack leader with 92. His two sacks, two quarterback hits, and a fumble recovery in only 22 snaps during the game rightfully garnered him the NFC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the first time in his decade-long career.

Despite the continued success, Kerrigan never fails to remember where he came from and how the city of Washington embraced him upon his arrival ten years ago.

“Not to get too religious but I’m really blessed,” the Washington Football talent said. “I feel like God has given me an incredible gift and an incredible life to be a professional athlete and I want to maximize the talents he’s given me and make the most of this career. When I think back on my career, it’s kind of been a dream. I’ve come to a city that’s really embraced me. I’ve come to a city that I’ve really loved living in and an organization I really love playing for. I just want to keep it going as long as I can. That’s what motivates me.”

Kerrigan's loyalty to the team that drafted him 16th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft seemed to have paid dividends for his career. He has settled in as a major contributor en route to being named to the 2011 PFWA All-Rookie Team and four Pro Bowl appearances.

After a tumultuous series of events during the offseason, the presence of Ryan Kerrigan remains to be a bright spot for Washington Football moving forward. The team will continue to lean on his presence on the defensive line to make a bounce-back campaign this season.
