Bringing the popular video game franchise to life is a challenge enough for Director Emma Tammi. But what about releasing an R-rated Five Nights at Freddy's sequel?
In an interview with Forbes, Tammi started by appreciating the importance of the game-movie flow. “Once you start Googling Five Nights at Freddy's, you realize it's a really big deal.”
Much like the game, the film's storyline follows the character Mike by Josh Hutcherson who takes on the role of an overnight security guard at the eerie Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. Strange occurrences soon unfold.
Emma Tammi's inspiration for the film drew from her childhood memories of animatronics in family-themed restaurants. She noted, “The whole world of Freddy's felt nostalgic to me in a really powerful way.” The film evokes the essence of these beloved yet eerie spaces, which have transformed over time.
The filmmaker tapped into the rising trend of exploring abandoned locations, incorporating real-life elements into the movie. Multiple versions of the animatronic characters were created, enhancing the tactile experience for both the cast and the audience.
However, an R-rated Five Nights at Freddy's seems like an idea for now. Currently, it's at a PG-13 rating, accommodating younger audiences. But still offering a sense of darkness suitable for the franchise. While there were calls for an R-rated version, Tammi confirmed there are no plans for such an adaptation.
With the success of the first film so far, there is a bright future ahead. But an R-rated Five Nights at Freddy's may not resonate so much with fans.
